Residencies for Practitioners

Beginning in Fall 2019, the PublicsLab will invite practicing humanists in the New York City area to spend time at The Graduate Center as practitioners-in-residence. This will allow graduate students and faculty to learn from them, while allowing the practitioners access to the resources of The Graduate Center and the chance to share their work with the GC community. Over the course of 3-5 days, a practitioner might engage in some combination of the following activities:

  • A 2-hour workshop with the Mellon Humanities Public Fellows
  • A smaller job simulation or project-based workshop with a select group of interested fellows
  • A larger lecture or reading for the greater Graduate Center community
  • A public conversation with a GC community member or another practitioner about a pressing issue in their field

The PublicsLab will work with each practitioner in order to design a program that allows them to share the best of their field and their work with the Graduate Center.
